Before you start
- Create your Eric account first. Adding Eric to Slack without one sends you back to sign up.
- Some Slack workspaces need an admin to approve new apps.
Add Eric to Slack
- On Where should Eric talk to you?, click Add Eric to Slack. (Later: Connections → Connect your communication channel → Slack.)
- Slack opens in another tab. Choose your workspace and allow the app.
- If Slack asks for an admin's approval, ask your admin to approve Eric, then add him again.
- Come back to the Eric tab. You see that Slack is connected.
Eric creates a channel called #eric, or uses it if it already exists. If that name is taken he picks a similar one, such as #eric-growth. If he can't create a channel, he asks: "Slack is connected. Which channel should I talk to you in?"
/invite @Eric and say hello there.Move Eric to another channel
- Open Connections and click Connect your communication channel.
- Click Change channel next to Slack.
- In Where should Eric post?, pick a channel. Only public channels are listed.
Confirm it's you
The first time you press a button that changes something, Eric may send you a direct message with a link: "Confirm it's you here and I'll carry on". The link works for 15 minutes and only for you. Open it, sign in if asked, and click Confirm and continue. Then go back to Slack and press the button again.
If Eric says he can only confirm privately, open a direct message with Eric in Slack and press the button again.
Get help in Slack
Type help or what can you do. Eric posts a menu with What needs me, Findings, Results, What I know and What I can change. You can also ask anything in your own words.
Disconnect Eric from Slack
- In Eric, open Connections → Connect your communication channel, click Disconnect next to Slack and confirm. Eric stops posting and deletes his copy of the Slack key.
- To remove the app from Slack as well, remove it in your Slack workspace's app settings.
