Check the tracking code is working
How Eric confirms his code is live on your site, what each status means, and what to do if nothing arrives.
How-to guide · Last updated 27 October 2026
After you add the code, Eric checks for it by himself. You don't need to press anything on the install page: the status turns green the moment the code reports in.
Make one visit
Eric needs one real page view to confirm the code is live. Click Open my site and I'll count that visit.
- On a computer, a small window opens behind the page, loads your site and closes by itself.
- On a phone, click Open my site, then come back and click I'm back, check now.
- If your browser blocks the window, copy the link Eric shows and open your site with it.
The visit Eric uses for the check is kept out of your numbers.
What the statuses mean
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Checking | Eric is looking for the code in the background. |
| Waiting for a visit | The code is on the page. One visit will confirm it. |
| Installed | Eric can see the code. Your site shows a saved copy of its pages, so one visit confirms it is live. |
| Live | The code is running and reporting. You're done. |
| Blocked on your site | The code is there, but something on the site stops it running. See below. |
| Address in use | Another account already confirmed the code on this address. Ask them to invite you, or use your own address. |
| Check ran out | Check links last 24 hours. Eric starts a fresh one. |
| Paused | Eric stopped checking after an hour. Reload the page to carry on. |
When it passes, click Next. To run the check again later, open Tracking and health → Tracking in the menu and click Check my site.
Nothing has arrived
Eric checks every few seconds at first, then less often, and pauses after an hour. If nothing arrives, these are the usual causes:
- A cookie banner. If your site asks visitors to accept cookies, accept them in the window that opened. See Consent and cookies.
- An ad blocker or strict privacy settings in your own browser. Pause it for your site and try again.
- A cached page. If your site or platform caches pages, clear the cache or publish again, then check again.
- Not published. Many builders only apply code when you publish.
- Code from another account. Replace it with the code on Eric's screen.
- A preview address. Eric ignores preview and staging addresses on purpose. Check your live address.
- Only some pages. If you added the code to some pages only, use Only added it to some pages? Check one of those instead.
You can carry on with Carry on without it for now and come back later. To have someone else check, copy the link under Checking for someone else? It works for 24 hours.
Later on
The Tracking page shows whether Eric is still hearing from your site, for example "I can see your customers." or "I've stopped seeing your customers." Eric also tells you if your site goes quiet.
