Add the tracking code

What Eric's tracking code is, how Eric picks the easiest way to add it to your site, and where it goes.

How-to guide · Last updated 27 October 2026

On this page

Eric's tracking code is a small script that goes on every page of your website. It lets Eric see how real visitors move through your site. It doesn't change how your pages look, and you can remove it at any time.

Open the install page

  • During setup: on Connect what Eric should learn from, click Connect on Your website, then Put my tag on. On Connect your website. click the button Eric shows, such as Get my code.
  • Later: open Connections from the menu, click Connect your website, then Check my tracking. On the tracking page click Show me how to install.

Eric reads your home page first ("Looking at how your site is built…") and then shows Let me start watching your customers. with the quickest way for your site.

How Eric picks the way to install

Eric looks at what your site is built on and suggests one way. You don't have to choose. In order, he prefers:

  1. Google Tag Manager, if your site already loads it. See Google Tag Manager.
  2. Your platform's app or plugin, where Eric has one: WordPress, Shopify, Wix and ClickFunnels.
  3. A guided paste: Eric shows the code and the exact screens to paste it into, for example HighLevel funnels, Webflow, Squarespace and other builders.

If Eric guessed your platform wrong, click Not … ? Tell me what it is and pick it from the list. Other options sit under the suggestion: Send this to whoever runs my site, I'd rather paste the code myself, and Look at my site again.

The code

The code is a short block: a small <style> line and three <script> lines. Click Copy code to copy it. Your business's key is already in it, so there is nothing to fill in. Always copy it from Eric; don't type it by hand.

Where it goes: in the <head> of every page. Put the first three lines (the style and the next two scripts) as high as they will go, together, and the last line anywhere before </head>. The two middle lines are the same code from two addresses, so a network that blocks one still reaches the other.

Important: Paste it exactly as it is, and don't add the first three lines through Tag Manager. The style keeps the page from showing for at most a second while Eric decides a test; if Eric can't be reached, your page simply shows after that second.

If your site uses a speed or caching plugin, leave the extra attributes on the lines alone: they ask those tools not to delay or change the code.

One code for all your websites

The same code works on every website in your business, such as a checkout or booking site on another domain. Add the website in Eric so he counts it. See Businesses and websites.

Messages on the install page

You seeWhat it means
"Your code is already on your site."Nothing to paste. Eric checks it is working.

Track your own events (optional)

Eric records page views, clicks, scrolls and form sends by himself. A developer can also record an event of your own, with optional details and a value:

ec("track", "signup", { plan: "pro" }, 49);
